Bringing Bulgakov's seminal work to life with an immersive experience that allows people to explore the book's key scenes, and speak to its characters.

"I was there" was built in collaboration with Google to celebrate Mikhail Bulgakov's magnum opus: Master and Margarita.

The magical experience blended timeless storytelling with innovative modern technology, allowing people to interact with characters and scenes from the book in a way they could only have dreamed of.

In the experience, readers converse with their favourite characters, with each interaction leading to the discovery of one of seven key scenes. Rich, hand drawn illustrations were meticulously crafted for each tableau, allowing people to witness the surreal story come to life. Attention to detail was vital, from the Soviet architecture right down to the setting-appropriate hair-styles.

Highlight – On release, the site was a hit in Russia and beyond, receiving over half a million visits and 20,000 shares in its first six weeks.
